Building Stronger Communities Through Collective Care
Be Well Foundation was born from the lived experiences of Black maternal health professionals who saw both the strengths and the gaps within our community's systems of support.
For years, many of us worked independently as doulas, childbirth educators, lactation counselors, therapists, nurses, wellness practitioners, and community advocates. While each of us was making meaningful contributions, we often found ourselves working in silos. Families would connect with one trusted professional but remain unaware of other resources that could support them. Providers were doing important work, yet opportunities for collaboration, coordinated referrals, shared learning, and sustainable growth were often limited.
At the same time, we witnessed the challenges many Black families faced while navigating pregnancy, postpartum, and early parenthood. Too often, families were left to piece together support on their own, moving between disconnected systems and searching for trusted care that reflected their experiences, values, and culture.
We also recognized another challenge. Many Black maternal health professionals were building businesses and serving families with limited access to the infrastructure, resources, funding opportunities, professional networks, and operational support needed to sustain and grow their work. While these practitioners play a critical role in improving maternal and infant health outcomes, they are often expected to carry the weight of community care without the same level of investment available to larger institutions.
We began asking a simple question: What would happen if we stopped working separately and started building together?
The answer became Be Well Foundation.
We believe wellness is more than healthcare. It is community, connection, education, belonging, and access to trusted relationships. By bringing together Black maternal health professionals, community organizations, wellness practitioners, and families, we are creating a stronger ecosystem of care that supports both those receiving services and those providing them.
Through the Be Well Maternal Wellness Network™, families can connect to trusted resources, culturally aligned support, and community-centered programs designed to help them thrive throughout pregnancy, postpartum, and beyond. At the same time, Black maternal health professionals gain opportunities for collaboration, referrals, professional development, shared learning, business support, and long-term sustainability, strengthening the community's overall capacity to serve families.
Our work is rooted in a simple belief: when families are connected to trusted support and practitioners are connected to one another, entire communities benefit. When we invest in Black families and the professionals who care for them, we create healthier outcomes, stronger businesses, stronger support systems, and more resilient communities.
Together, we are restoring the village, strengthening pathways to care, and building a future where Black families and Black providers can thrive side by side.
