Stories of Care, Connection, and Community

The most powerful evidence of impact is often found in the experiences of the families and communities we serve.

From Community Connection to Community Care

To protect the privacy of the family involved, identifying details have been changed.

When we talk about restoring the village, we often imagine what it could look like. Sometimes, we have the privilege of seeing it happen in real time.

Last year, a local mother attended The Art of Community, a wellness event designed to bring together families, community members, and trusted Black wellness professionals in a space centered on connection, learning, and belonging. She arrived looking for information and community. What she found was something much deeper.

During the event, she connected with members of the Be Well network and learned about childbirth education opportunities available through one of our community partners. Motivated by a desire to prepare for the birth of her child, she later enrolled in childbirth education classes facilitated by Connie, a trusted Black childbirth educator committed to helping families navigate pregnancy with confidence and knowledge.

Through those classes, she gained practical information about labor, birth, postpartum recovery, and infant care. More importantly, she found a space where her questions were welcomed, her concerns were heard, and her experiences were understood.

As her pregnancy progressed, she decided she wanted additional support during labor and birth. Through the relationships built within the Be Well network, she was connected to Brianna, a Black birth doula who could provide continuous emotional, informational, and physical support throughout her birth journey.

What began as a single community event evolved into a continuum of care.

Along the way, she experienced many of the principles that guide the Be Well Foundation's WELL BUILT Framework™. She found Wellness through supportive spaces that centered her well-being. She gained Education through childbirth preparation classes that increased her confidence and knowledge. She benefited from Linkages that connected her to trusted resources and providers. She experienced Belonging through relationships with professionals who reflected her community and understood her lived experiences.

She also experienced Unified Care. Rather than navigating pregnancy alone or piecing together support from disconnected sources, she moved through a network of professionals committed to collaboration, communication, and community-centered care.

By the time she welcomed her baby, she was not simply receiving services. She was supported by a village.

Stories like this remind us why our work matters. Too often, families must navigate fragmented systems without trusted guidance or culturally aligned support. We believe families deserve something different. They deserve access to care, education, resources, and relationships that work together to support their health and well-being.

This is what happens when community becomes connection, connection becomes trust, and trust becomes care.

This is what happens when we invest in Black families and Black practitioners at the same time.

This is the vision of Be Well Foundation: supporting Black families, sustaining Black care, and building communities where wellness is not left to chance but strengthened through collective care and community connection.
